  • How does a sunless tan work?

Spray tan solutions contain an ingredient called DHA (dihydroxyacetone). This is a compound that reacts with the amino acids in your skin and the oxygen in the air, which creates a chemical reaction that allows your skin to produce its own natural melanin, simply meaning, this leaves your skin a shade darker! The amount of DHA varies per solution and is hand selected by our tan artist to match your skin’s undertones in order to avoid any orange development or outcome.

  • How do I prepare for a spray tan?

Moisturize the week leading up to your scheduled spray, the DHA within all tan solutions naturally dehydrates skin, to avoid this affecting your spray tan, we encourage hydrating your skin as much as possible. With this being said, we also ask that you stop the use of facial retinol products in the days leading up to your tan to avoid dehydrating the skin. One to two days before your spray, exfoliate and shave, be sure not to use soap or lotion within 16 hours before your spray tan, soap and lotions can create blemishes in your tan outcome. Be sure to remove any existing spray tan before coming to your appointment, in order to ensure a clean canvas and a flawless outcome. At BARE, we often recommend using warm water, soap, and a wash cloth or our tan removing glove in order to remove previous sprays from the skin. On the day of your spray, we ask that you wear loose fitting clothes, apply no lotion or deodorant, and that you have no makeup on your face. To speed up your appointment, we also ask that you remove any jewelry and have your hair up at the start of your appointment.

  • What do I do post spray tan?

For 8-10 hours post spray (or 2-3 if instant solution was used), be sure to wear loose fitting clothes and avoid liquid spillage on the skin. After the mentioned time frame, it is time to take a light shower water to get the excess solution off, but still avoid using soap for the first 24 hours post spray tan to allow the tan to fully develop on your skin. Following your shower be sure to begin moisturizing (a fragrance free moisturizer is recommended). The key to a long lasting spray tan is moisturizing! We also recommend avoiding chlorinated pools, Jacuzzis, saunas , or spraying perfume too closely to the skin, as the alcohols in the fragrance solution will break down the spray solution.

  • What do I wear to receive my spray tan?

Loosing fitting clothes are required. For several hours post spray if tight clothes or liquids touch the fresh spray it can leave blemishes and marks. We also ask that you are make up free to receive your tan as well.

  • What is the difference between your clear and non clear solution?

The difference between the clear and non clear solution is the presence of an added bronzer. Although both solutions contain DHA, which causes the chemical reaction with the skin to produce natural melanin, the addition bronzer gives the immediate tint to the skin to, which some clients prefer! The bronzer should be fully rinsed off after your first shower with soap 24 hours post spray tan, this is the color you will see flowing down the drain post tan. Our clear solution is free of the bronzer, which we would recommend for those clients who need a quick spray tan before heading back to work or for our brides, to avoid any possibility of bronzer staining if not properly rinsed off.

  • Does your solution contain UV protection?

No the solutions we use do not contain UV protection. We encourage always using sun protection when going out into the sun. We also ask you to be mindful in using fragrance free sunscreen solutions in order to avoid tan break down.

  • Can I get a spray tan with a sunburn?

No, we strongly advise against receiving spray tans with a sun burn. Due to the dehydrating properties of DHA, a spray tan over burnt skin can lead to peeling. We strongly advise waiting to receive your spray till your burn has subsided, and continuing to moisturize through out its duration.
